This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about the surname Howe and its variants. There are currently over 10,000 Howe's in WikiTree. The published Howe Genealogies, which focus on five Howe's who settled in New England during the Great Migration period and their descendants list over 10,000 Howe's and there are many more known Howe's around the world. We have a long way to go to capture all Howe's, correct the errors that inevitably have crept in, and build a definitive study.

The surnames Howe and How were used interchangeably until the 1800's, when most lines settled on the Howe spelling.

DNA can play an important part in this, too. We have known descendants with Y-DNA matches that intersect at colonial settlers and good classical genealogical records to back them up.

This is not intended to be limited to Howe's in the United States. There are many Howe's in England and Australia and around the world, and we hope to tie them together as much as possible. Join us and help build this study.

See the Howe Genealogy web site for more Howe information not captured in WikiTree yet. This web site also includes a page on where to find useful sources, like the published Howe Genealogies in downloadable, searchable PDFs or on searchable CDs.

Thank you, Walter for your recent edits to the Emilie Howe (14201) family tree. I am working on my membership application for the Daughters of the American Revolution. How do I order a birth certificate for Louis Francis Howe? And please include me in the Howe Project.

Howe-63 and Howe-67 appear as if they are co-mingled. Both Jonathans have the same date of birth - April 23rd and both are listed as having died in 1738 in Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts. It appears unclear which Jonathan actually married Sarah Hapgood - the Jonathan whose parents are Daniel Howe/Elizabeth Kerly as currently represented or the Jonathan whose parents are Thomas Howe/Sarah Hosmer.

I know of four different Charles Wesley Howe, including your great great grandfather. Some trees have equated yours to son of George W. Howe of Indiana, but that is pretty clearly a different Charles Wesley Howe. The name similarity among them suggests there might be a common Wesley ancestor with one or more of the others somewhere, but I have had no success following that idea.

I have had my DNA done if that helps.

I have seen that George Howe has been attached as a parent for my Charlie. I correct it every time I see it.

I am very interested in joining. I have solid Howe ancestry that I can share and would like to add additional information to what I already know.
